Behind the group.one deal

Real stories from founders partnering up with group.one

Igor Strecko

Igor Strecko - founder of Webglobe

Scaling with purpose: how Webglobe found its perfect match

close

Can you share your journey with us?

Building Webglobe was more than growing a business—it was about creating something that truly mattered in the hosting and domain space. We scaled across multiple markets, acquired companies along the way, and built a strong team that thrived on innovation.

But as we grew, I knew that taking Webglobe to the next level would at some point require a strong partner with the scale, expertise, and vision to accelerate that growth. That’s where group.one came in – the best possible partner to take over the future of Webglobe.

Today, I’m proud to see how the company continues to grow under the group.one umbrella, maintaining the entrepreneurial DNA we built while gaining access to even greater resources and capabilities.

Why did you choose group.one?

From the founder’s perspective, selling a company isn’t about the numbers alone—it’s about legacy, trust, and finding the right hands to carry your vision forward. When we were considering potential acquirers for Webglobe, I wasn’t looking for a buyer only. I was looking for a partner who understood the mission we had built and had the operational strength to take it further

Many companies approached us over the years, but group.one stood out for one key reason: It had both the strategic vision and the entrepreneurial mindset that matched ours. The team at group.one were builders and they saw the real value of Webglobe—our team, our customers, and our impact in the market.

How was the deal process like?

M&A deals are often seen as purely financial transactions, but in reality, they are deeply personal and often emotional. The process with group.one was one of the smoothest I’ve experienced. The team was transparent, professional, decisive, and respectful of what we had built. They moved fast, but never at the expense of quality or trust.

For any founder considering an exit, who you sell to is at least as important as the price you get. Looking back, I can say with confidence that we made the right call with group.one.

Edvin Syse

Edvin Syse - founder of SYSE

Scaling success: from founder to lead architect

close

Can you share your journey with us?

I founded the Norwegian hosting company SYSE in 1995, where I served as CEO and full-stack developer for the first 15 years. When Øyvind joined us as CEO, I transitioned into a full-time developer role, allowing me to focus entirely on my passion for technology.

Throughout my 30 years in the industry, I’ve specialized in building order-to-cash systems and integrating external services.

Why did you choose group.one?

Our expertise in migrations was a key factor in our decision to join the group. We saw an incredible opportunity to scale our technology and make an even greater impact.

Our long-term strategy aligned seamlessly with the group’s vision, making the partnership a natural fit—and truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that has been immensely rewarding for both founders and employees.

What made you stay in group.one and what is your role now?

One of the aspects I value most about group.one is the leadership. Even at the C-level, the team is packed with individuals who deeply understand the technical landscape, which leads to informed and thoughtful decision-making. This alignment of competence and vision resonates with me deeply and is a core reason why I believe in and love being part of this company.

In my current role as Lead Architect, I get to be part of the decision-making concerning the architecture of our target platforms. I’m surrounded by knowledgeable people who challenge and improve my ideas, fostering both growth and innovation.

Toni Claren

Toni Claren - founder of Zoner

From founder to chief operating officer (COO)

close

Can you share your journey with us?

As the founder of Zoner, established in 2005, I was actively engaged in all aspects of the business, from operations to strategic growth. In 2016, I took on the role of CEO, leading the company through its evolution until its successful acquisition by group.one in 2020

Why did you choose group.one?

Compared to other parties interested in acquiring the company, group.one felt like the ideal fit — they were more honest, direct, and aligned with my vision.

What made you stay in group.one and what is your role now?

group.one had a clear and compelling vision for the future, paired with an innovative product portfolio and strong in-house development capabilities.

Currently, I serve as COO for the Nordics, leading the commercial team across the region and driving growth.

Timo Mankartz

Timo Mankartz - Founder of Dogado

Merging strengths: how dogado became part of something bigger

close

Can you share your journey with us?

My journey as co-founder of dogado GmbH began in 2007 with a clear vision: to provide top-tier IT resources to small and medium-sized businesses while prioritizing customer satisfaction. Through steady growth and over 30 strategic acquisitions, I have helped shape dogado into a leading player in hosting services.

During my time at dogado GmbH, I have held various key positions. As Managing Director (2007-2015), COO, Director Sales and Director Customer Success, my focus was always on not only developing the company operationally but also ensuring that our customers received the best possible service. It was always clear to me that there can be no sustainable growth without satisfied customers.

Why did you choose group.one?

It was the best candidate to create a leading pan-European provider of online presence solutions - a platform that helps small and medium-sized businesses to be digitally successful. And, one.com was already very well positioned in the Nordic countries, so it was only logical to join forces and bring these two groups together under the umbrella of a joint investor.

How was the deal process like?

The process was very structured, fast and efficient due to combined experience in M&A. We were able to make very quick and informed decisions, even on one of the largest deals in the hosting industry in 2022.

Dominic Geisler

Dominic Geisler - founder of YourWebstart

From founder to head of migrations

Can you share your journey with us?

Since 2001, I’ve been active in the hosting industry, founding several companies, including YourWebstart (Web Hosting) and Clanotopia (Colocation, Dedicated Servers, Managed Solutions), both of which pioneered innovative solutions.

Key milestones in my career include my strategic role in Alvotech’s acquisition (VPS) and the sale of Hostingparadise (Web Hosting) to Dogado Group in 2018.

Why did you choose group.one?

I chose group.one for their strong market position, expertise in the hosting industry, and proven ability to drive sustainable growth. Their resources offer the ideal foundation to scale the business while ensuring continuity for both customers and employees.

I was particularly impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit within the team, which closely aligns with my own approach to business. Their proven track record in successful integrations made them the ideal partner to strengthen the brand in a competitive market, ensuring long-term value and future growth.

What made you stay in group.one and what is your role now?

I stayed with group.one because of its incredible growth and unmatched potential in the industry. The dynamic environment, with its exciting challenges, makes my work truly enjoyable. Additionally, I value collaboration with colleagues who are true entrepreneurs at heart.

In my new role as VP Migrations, I am responsible for the integration process following M&A transactions, focusing on product and data migration. This role is highly complex and multifaceted, requiring strategic planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination—making it both challenging and rewarding.
